Why should club members attend our district assembly? Sunday 17th May, register by 5th.
The district assembly, held each May, is an opportunity for Rotarians to increase their Rotary knowledge, develop leadership skills and meet other Rotarians in the district.
Club leaders receive resources at the district assembly to help them lead and motivate their club members, along with information about their role and responsibilities. They also can meet incoming district leaders, including the district governor, assistant governors, and various committee members. This is why incoming club board members and committee chairs are expected to attend this one day event.
Attendees use case studies to exchange ideas and brainstorm solutions to common club issues, while also drawing on the expertise of other Rotarians in their district. Sessions dedicated to public speaking, long-range planning, and effective goal setting are among the most popular.
The assemblies also provide Rotarians with information about their district goals for the next year, the new RI theme, the Club Leadership Plan, and membership recruitment and retention strategies.
Overall, the district assembly helps all club members get motivated for the upcoming Rotary rear while enjoying the fellowship of other Rotarians in their district.

The Wedderburn Drought Relief project was a perfect example of a mini-project that worked
Perhaps project chief Judy Greer didn’t see it as ‘mini’, but it was a huge success, a great coup by Judy, and a perfect example of a very cohesive Rotary club at work. On my count, 20 of us entertained 20 of them for dinner last Sat. night, not counting the bed-makers, caterers, bus drivers and others who made it all happen!

The Stella Awards – 1st Place
This year’s runaway first prize goes to Mrs Merv. Grazinski of Oklahoma City, who purchased a new 10 metre Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home from a college football game, having driven onto the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver’s seat to go to the back of the motor home to make herself a sandwich. Fair dinkum!
Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the owner’s manual that she couldn’t actually leave the driver’s seat while the cruise control was set. The Oklahoma jury awarded her $1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home. Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this case, just in case Mrs Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home. It could only happen in America!

This day tonight
Ken Fleay’s resignation has been accepted with regret.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Marion Walton on the death of her father Bruce Hutchinson.
May is Bowel Scan month. If you don’t take the test, you are a bloody idiot.
Heather Wallace has taken over 60 bookings for the Davidsons dinner meeting on 12th May, 6.00 for 6.30. If you think $30 for three courses is a bit rich, you are also a bloody idiot. It will be at least six times as good as the rubbish we paid $20 [for one course] tonight!
Phil Edwards expertly chaired tonight’s ‘Thank you’ meeting, to recognize, with certificates and Rotary ‘Sponsor’ badges, those people who were listed in last week’s bulletin, as representing those businesses which have provided valuable sponsorship for our major fundraising activities. These activities included the Trots night [$3000], The Car raffle [$16000] and the Market [net $18,500] Phil also referred to our major charitable disbursements, including family hampers, financial support for two secondary school students, local Ambulance Service, CFA, Neighborhood Centre, The Wedderburn Drought relief project, Bushfire appeal, Amy Gillett Foundation, and Rotary’s Shelterbox program. His comments were ably supported by Wal Kelly. .

A weary policeman pulls over a speeding motorist. “OK driver, it’s been a long day and I’ve heard all the excuses why people are exceeding the limit. If you can give me a good reason why you are doing 118km in a 100 zone, I’ll consider letting you off with a warning”. The motorist responded, “Well officer, about a year ago my wife ran off with one of your lot – a policeman. I was speeding because I saw you and thought you were bringing her back.”
