From President Rod:

Surfside Primary School – ‘Stephanie Alexander Garden’: It was great to hear our speakers last meeting being so positive about the garden and kitchen at Surfside Primary School – and about the benefits to the students. Zach Dynes, a school-captain, spoke with such ease and confidence. Zach is certainly a leader in the making. According to all the reports Zach plays a pretty good for the Cobras – and barracks for Essendon. He’s obviously a very perceptive student.

We are now looking to see how we can further support the project. It may provide an opportunity for some ‘hands-on’ service while we get the Lookout Reserve underway!

Market: Thanks to everyone for taking their collection of pamphlets. School holidays start next week – remember to get your pamphlets into letter boxes as soon as possible. Lots of people will be coming down to their holidays houses and planning what to do. Let’s make sure their plans include a visit to the Market.

Foundation Reports: ‘Health Hunger and Humanity’ are the catch words. This is a great segment and eagerly awaited by everyone each week.

Social Events: Please support the ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’ film night in October. For more details see John Calnin’s note below.

Film Night – ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’: From John Calnin: ‘I spoke on this last meeting and suggested members might like to attend. I recommend, now, that the night be changed to Friday 2nd October and we meet at the Waurn Ponds ‘La Porchetta’ Restaurant at 6pm or thereabouts and then view the film at Reading Cinemas. Tickets are best purchased with “Senior’s Cards’ - bulk bookings work out dearer.

Lee, the book’s author, was plucked as a young child from his home in China and taught ballet. He became a world-renowned dancer and now lives in Melbourne (where he is a stock-broker). Details of showing times, which are yet to be notified, will be passed on when known. Please let me know, either at Rotary or by email, if you would like to attend’ – John Calnin.

Forthcoming Guest-Speaker/s (Richard Trigg):

22nd September: Darryl Thomas CEO Geelong Cemeteries Trust.
29th September: Rotarian David Tyrrell – on his recent sailing trip to Noumea

Duties 29th September:

Chairman: Noel Emselle Assistant Cashier and Thanker: Bruce Gilbert
Greeter and Assistant Sergeant: Hans Franken.
(Not always possible of course and there is a small cash float held at the reception table BUT it is a tremendous help when attendees pay the exact amount of $20 per head on arrival.)

(Editorial Team: Ian Downing & Richard Grimmett – Letters to the Editor are welcome. Expletives will be returned)
