A warm welcome to Shepparton Rotarian Gary Golding who recently moved to our area.
Last Meeting (22 September) was full of atmosphere with the St Kilda supporters battling to keep their team’s name out there in the face of a sea (well a small puddle at least) of blue and white).
Our Speaker, Darryl Thomas, spoke on his recent travels to Hong Kong to attend a Funeral industry conference. He drew some interesting comparisons between Australian and overseas Industry practices.
We look forward to some local community activities to which we have been invited to attend. These include the Ocean Grove Uniting Church’s Community Expo on Saturday 10 October (Richard Grimmett is still looking for helpers); the Neighborhood Centre’s AGM on Friday 30 October (Noel Emselle will represent us) and the Marine Discovery Centre Seafood Dinner on the same date (contact Noel for details). These are all great opportunities for us to put Rotary’s name out in front of the community.
‘Mao’s Last Dancer’ Dinner Night (Friday 2 October): This will be a great social function for Ocean Grove Rotarians. Please tell John Calnin if you are coming.
‘Berlin Marathon’: Congratulations to our recent Guest Speaker Sam Meagher who returns home this week. She will report to us soon on the event and tell us how much money she raised (apparently the conditions were hot and some competitors effected)

2010 Rotary International Convention: It is worth noting that the next Rotary International Convention will be held in Montreal Canada over the period 20-23 June 2010. It is also worth noting that the 1993 Rotary International Convention was held in Australia (the host-club was the Rotary Club of Melbourne). An RI Convention provides an unforgettable experience. No where else are Rotary’s ubiquity, magnitude and magnanimity more apparent.

(Not always possible of course and there is a small cash float held at the reception table BUT it is a tremendous help when attendees pay the exact amount of $20 per head on arrival.)
