Meeting Theme: District Conference 2013.  12th, 13th, and 14th of April.
District Governor Elect, Helen Trigg introduced those members who did not attend the District Conference at Warrnambool to her presentation for the Conference of 2013. The power point presentation was well produced and the concise information it contained made next years event look very inviting and full of interest. There is no doubt that the cyclamen pink shirts worn by the OG members who were at Warrnambool created interest and a great means of advertising for next year.
The College of Governors will stay and have their meetings at the Vue  Grand Hotel in Queenscliffe. The City of Greater Geelong and RI Queenscliffe will host the Civic Reception.
John Calnin as chairman of the conference planning group (Gary Golding has stepped aside as unforeseen family matters have become pressing) then took over the meeting to provide an update to all present where planning was at the moment. Carole Birrell is John’s PA. Peter McLennan will take John’s place on finance. Dick Clay, Judy Greer, Gordon King, John Paton, John Flett and Helen Trigg are the other members of the planning group.
Sponsorship is slow and ongoing. Hopefully the City of Greater Geelong will assist in the hire of facilities, which is the greatest expense.
The Surfside Primary School has been approached to cater for morning and afternoon tea and perhaps lunch.
The Conference Dinner will be held in two venues.
The Blues Train which can accommodate a maximum of 200 people and the Queenscliffe/Sorrento Ferry for a sunset cruise to Sorrento and back with dinner on the Ferry from 8p.m – 11p.m.
Speakers for the sessions. There are five: 1.Alex Chernov, Governor of Victoria and Supreme Court Judge.  2. Michael McQueen, Next Gen Group on emerging trends with Gen X and Y. 3.Cate Steains, who is associated with the United Nations. 4.Emmett Dunne, Assistant Commissioner of Police on Ethical standards. 5.Heddy Johnston from Bravehearts who support survivors of sexual abuse.
John assured the club that every endeavour was being made to keep registration fees as low as possible.
A conference slogan is being sought and many good ideas were suggested.
An alternate venue to the Ocean Grove Leisure Centre is being considered at Christian College, Drysdale is being considered.
President Elect Dick Clay on our behalf has stated that the Club will make the conference a great success. He also stated that the membership will be kept fully informed. Most members have been allocated a role and a committee person to report to. Only being overseas or in the hands of R Grimmett or H Trigg would be an acceptable excuse.
The people who attended the Warrnambool Conference were asked to comment on areas where improvement or change could be made. These were duly noted and put into the planning considerations.
All partners who came to this meeting were thanked for coming.
There is lots of work to be done for this event but there will be lots of fun too.
Did you know….?
- If the stomach did not store food, people would have to eat every 20 minutes.
- Podiatrists state that the average pair of feet travel about 190,000km in a lifetime.
- Owls are reportedly the only birds that can see the colour blue.
- Green tea has 50% more vitamin C than black tea.

Forward Planning… Partner’s night
29th May - Annual Davidson’s Restaurant (at the Gordon) Evening.
Please note partners are automatically booked in for a Partner’s
night, so if not attending an apology MUST be recorded.
Some more Girlie wisdom:
-Sometimes I think I understand everything, and then I regain consciousness.
- Amazing! You hang something in your wardrobe for a while and it shrinks 2 sizes.
- The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing and then they marry him.
- I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That is my idea of a perfect day.
