Change Over Dinner.
This important event was once again held at Club Grove. There were ninety-four guests, partners and Rotarians present, including PDG Henry Hudson and Isabelle, Rotarians from Drysdale and Queenscliff Clubs, Jane Cox ADG, Friends and family of PE Dick and Leone Clay, Lisa Neville MP, Ross McDonald CEO Club Grove, Philip Scambler President of Lions, OG voice Reporter and Stella the Granddaughter of Joan and Bill Steains. There were many apologies.
With much good feeling two Paul Harris Fellowship awards were presented. Judy Greer and Richard Grimmett were the well-deserved recipients.
Ian Downing was made an Honorary Member of the Club as he has retired from Rotary.
Peter Hawthorn very ably proposed the Toast to Rotary International and the response given by PDG Henry Hudson was as usual simple and dignified.
Several people were recognized with 100% attendance, Noel Ritson-Bennett, Fred Andrews, Vic Harnath and Pres. Margaret Campbell.
DGE Helen Trigg presented a banner to the Club signifying that Ocean Grove Rotary Club was the Home of the District Governor.
In her summing – up of the years events and activities Margaret Campbell thanked all the members for their many contributions to the various activities of the Club over the last year. Some of these included: the car raffle, Anzac Day breakfast, Mega Swim, Red Cross calling, development and ongoing maintenance of Lookout Reserve, workplace visit, Art Show, DIK, Shelter Box, Summer and Winter Markets, and funding for equipment for Ambulance and Fire Brigade. (We have been busy!)
Membership remains the same at fifty-two, four have come and four have resigned.
Over the last year $42,000.00 has been distributed locally, nationally and internationally and there is a healthy bank balance to commence the coming year's projects. Thanks were also expressed to the Bulletin Editor and especially to those who took over 6 months while she was incapacitated. My personal thanks are also expressed I am sorry we have to do it again, though not for the same time span I hope.
President Richard (Dick) Clay |
The new Board was introduced: IPP Marg. Campbell, VP Geoff Chandler, Pres Elect Gordon King, Sec. Vic Harnath, Treas. Fred Andrews, Projects Phil. Edwards, Foundation Trevor McArdle, Membership John Paton and Public Relations John Flett.
Rod Birrell conducted a hilarious Sergeants session. All members were allocated positions and activities at the new television channel, which he imagined, would open in Ocean Grove. His imagination and acute powers of observation ran riot as everyone was slotted into very funny and sometimes most appropriate positions.
Something light:
- A new type of broom has come out; it is sweeping the nation clean.
- When William joined the army he disliked the phrase 'fire at Will'.
- The butcher backed up into the meat grinder and got a little behind in his work.
- Lightening sometimes shocks people because it just doesn't know how to conduct itself.
- Note to members – Apologies must be in by 11a.m. on MONDAY! Notification later than this is of no use. Co-operation with this would be appreciated.
