3 on Me: David Tyrrell.
David believes he has had a fortunate life and classes himself as nearly a local! He went to Marcus Hill Primary School, a one-teacher school. Secondary education was at Queenscliff High. He then became a builder. As a youth he was involved in scouting and developed a love of sailing. He has sailed around the South Pacific, loving every minute of life at sea. He married Anne, a nurse at the Geelong Hospital and in his words she is "a wonderful lady" They have two good boys who are developing their own careers. For the last several years he has worked at the Gordon Institute teaching building and more latterly Occupational Health and Safety. Two nasty things have happened in his fortunate life…. A nail in the eye and last being kicked by a bull calf needless to say no longer intact!

Guest Speaker: Stewart Wishler. "Western Bank Of Barwon River Boardwalk".
Stewart is a Ranger at Bellarine Peninsular Estate, which extends from the Sheepwash and includes the area around lower Lake Connewarrie. It is a very busy area with high visitor use. There was a multiagency approach from 2001 – 2005 where rock walls, boardwalks, fishing platforms, replacement of mangroves and shoreline stabilization were satisfactorily completed. The current plan, developed in 2012 is to extend infrastructure and to preserve vegetation, so fishermen and walkers can use and enjoy the area without ploughing about in the mud and destroying mangroves.
To facilitate this, two boardwalks one of 260metres and one of 150-180 metres with fishing platforms are needed. The Geotechnical and Cultural Heritage studies are complete, however further government expenditure is not forthcoming and local fundraising is needed to enable this critical piece of infrastructure to be completed.
Stewart believes there is good support from most interested parties who will be required to commence fund raising as this type of project appears to be out of favour with the government. The vision is long term so lobbying, stamina and good negotiation skills will be required, and this is where we, as a Club may be able to help.
