Guest Speaker: Madelaine Baker.
Madelaine attended the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra earlier in the year. Her experience was very different from her expectations. The long, very full days were very exciting and interesting and the challenges in her area of interest, which is health sciences, were very stimulating. As well as the lab visits and speakers there was lots of social interaction. Some Tourist activities were also provided. The staff members accompanying the students were very good and great fun. Maddie believes the experience has helped her grow and develop and to define her future plans. She is very grateful she has had the opportunity to attend the NYSF and thanked all who were involved.

Guest Speaker: Matt Flapper. "Commonwealth Games Experience."

Matt commenced playing Bowls at age 13 years and by the age of 17 yrs. represented Victoria in the under 18's. He travelled widely always-achieving higher levels and by the age of 36 had played 300 games. In 2010 he realized he needed to loose weight and over 14months he dropped from 155kg to 90kg. Feeling much fitter and after a great deal of work he played in the Australian Open and was selected in the Australian A squad to play in Malaysia. Matt is a qualified cabinet-maker but so he could devote more time to his game he became employed at the OGBC.
Preparation began in 2012 with the aim of being selected in the Australian Squad at the Commonwealth Games in 2014. He was selected in 2013 and when in Scotland played many practice games before the competition began.
Eventually the team entered the Games Village where facilities were fantastic. Competition in the triples was keen and although Australia won all games they were defeated in the quarterfinal and Bronze Medal round. The pairs played well playing Scotland in the Semifinal round in filthy weather. They were defeated and played the Bronze Medal round against India. Australia won. Matts pleasure and pride in playing for his country was obvious and he is continuing to train to play in the World Bowls Competition in 2016 and hopefully the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast in 2018. Our good wishes go with him.

Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays.  Also the Club has to pay for members who have not apologized and not turned up!
Phone number is 0457 315 900. Thank You.

A Reminder… I would be very grateful if a hard copy of reports could be given to me at the meeting… My task would be made easier!
