Report: Meeting 2/6/2015.
Guest Speaker: Paul Drake, Ocean Grove Hardware.
Paul was born in Colac in 1965, one of 5 brothers. His parents were dairy farmers and Paul was the first Drake boy not to milk cows. At 16 Paul went to work at the NAB working his way up to being a relieving Manager and being posted to many small country towns. Next was a position in Collins Street in Melbourne, which he did not like. He left the Bank and worked for Bob Ansett in Budget Rent a Car eventually working his way to senior positions.
In 1992, Paul left Budget as his parents had bought the Ocean Grove Hardware Store, which he came to manage. Paul spoke about how the business thrives in the summer and survives in the winter. He mentioned how face book has had an impact on selling goods, especially artwork. Three years ago he bought the business from his parents as well as the old fire station premises.
Over the years they have been lucky to win many State Store of the Year Awards as well as two employees of the year awards. Paul and the business are very happy to be involved in the community with sponsorship to many groups.
Thanks to Marion Walton for doing the notes.
Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays. Also the Club has to pay for members who have not apologized and not turned up!
Phone number is 0457 315 900. Thank You.
A Reminder… I would be very grateful if a hard copy of reports could be given to me … my task would be made easier!
