Guest Speaker: Rob Rushford. " Private and Public Treatment of people affected by Drugs and or Alcohol"
Rob works with Parkworth Partners, a consultant service with clients being those affected by these two problems. He comes from a background of finance, accountancy, legal and business professions, and he became involved through a request of help from friends.
Rob asked us what our impression of Drug Addicts/Users was and the answers were many and varied and somewhat surprising. The facts show that the problem is massive in Geelong and surrounding districts. The problem is rarely simple, and wealth does effect the treatment available and given.
A private client is treated for $40 - $50,000. They are mostly self employed or come from a family business. Treatment takes 12 – 15 months and may result in a cure. If a jail term is given it is usually for 3 months.
A public client is treated for $5 - $25,000. They are mostly unemployed. Care is provided through the Salvation Army or Odyssey House with minimal aftercare provided. A jail term of 2 -5 years is usually imposed.
His organization becomes involved with ongoing care and management of businesses and families.
More thought is that treatment must not be centered around criminal offence pathways, but as a mental health or medical problem. Rob's address certainly gave the members something different to think about.
Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays.
Also the Club has to pay for members who have not apologized and not turned up! Phone number is 0457 315 900. Thank You.
