Guest Speakers: Dr. Alicia Kennedy and Dr. Natalie "Cherished Pets Foundation."
Both women live locally and their business is based at Wallington. It was a 'dream' of both speakers to commence the organization as they realized the almost immeasurable value of the bond that forms between the owners and their pets.
It is a Social Enterprise and a Foundation, therefore a charity. The aim is to provide in home pet care support for people in the Bellarine and surrounding region who are elderly, ill or disabled. By supporting companion pet care, owners are enabled to enjoy the benefits without the worry. Volunteers provide care and service and emergency/crisis care is being explored. Home veterinarian services are provided.
The population is ageing and research shows that the benefits of owning pets far outweigh the detractions, especially if there is support. Pet ownership increases physical activity, social communication, a reason for being and someone to talk to. A Pilot project has been commenced and evidence obtained will form the basis and evidence for continuation and requests for funding. At present there are only 6 persons and dogs involved, but the Foundation is young and more participants are interested. Those of us who share our lives with pets know the pleasure they give us, and this type of service may be a solution as we too age!
Membership dues are overdue!
Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays. Also the Club has to pay for members who have not apologized and not turned up!
