Guest Speakers: Bruce Pollerd. Coast Watch Volunteers
The organization, one of four in Victoria, has been in existence for 40 years. It was originally set up by the Government to help professional fishermen while working out at sea, and to collect the license fee required for marine radios when these were the main means of communication. This has changed with the use of GPS and other electronic devices. The major priority is safety of people boats come second. When called the response time is very quick often beating the water police and Coast Guard. Rescue work is varied but mainly involves boats and fishermen. They work closely with the Water Police especially for location, and the OGSLSC where the problem is too far out for the lifeguards. There are twelve active members and forty plus other members. There are usually two or three active members involved with a rescue. The area they work in is fairly local extending from Torquay through the Heads. Running costs are about $5000 for fuel etc. Maintenance, rent, purchase of equipment rent of shed and insurance are extra.
Volunteers run the organization without Government funding (apart from a contribution made some years ago towards a new boat). Fundraising has to be done by the group through donation, raffles and sausage sizzles at general hardware and building supply stores at weekends. This organization may be worth further consideration for some assistance.

Please note it is essential that apologies be recorded by 12noon on Mondays.  Also the Club has to pay for members who have not apologized and not turned up!  Phone number is 0457 315 900, Thank You.
