Phil continues to be very busy and plans to retire again this week. His continuing activity will focus on the charity he and a friend started in 2012. They founded a not for profit organization which assists wounded comrades and their families who have served recently, especially those who have been posted in Afghanistan. There have been 72,000 women and men who have served since 1990. Some of these have been physically and/or mentally affected. The organization helped 200 young veterans in 2012 and 500 in 2015. Currently there are two centers operating as hubs for care. The hope is to increase these centers.
Phil stressed that outcome was most important. They strive to reintegrate the generation of personnel into the community with the focus on the mental and physical health of the veterans, their families and the community they inhabit. Other organizations and industries are encouraged to help. Support staff is usually voluntary and any activity or means is used to assist with the integration.
Phil along with a friend plans to walk 300+ kilometers across England commencing on 22nd May, The walk is planned to take 18 days and will commence at St Bees and finish at Robin Hood Bay. Sponsorship is needed, as the aim is to raise $40,000.
Details can be found through Google walking across the UK soldier on.
