The 'Wash up of Ride the Bellarine.'
Visitors: Rotary members from; Geelong Central, Highton, Geelong East, Torquay, Highton, Wendoree Breakfast, Bayside, Drysdale, Grovedale, Queenscliff and Warrnambool. There were 18 visiting Rotarians present. There were 10 other visitors including sponsors, present.
A video of some of the participants and supporters was shown and a quick summary of the results and effects of the event were outlined as follows:
· 115 people volunteered their time, 22 of which were members of the RC of Ocean Grove.
· $23,000 will go to the End Polio Now campaign and this will be matched 2 for 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation giving just short of $70,000 to the cause
· This will buy approximately 115,000 doses of Polio vaccine
· Poliomyelitis is a disease last seen in epidemic form in this country around 60 years ago. Now with 2 "Ride the Bellarine" events, we have raised enough, with the Gates Foundation, for 200,000 children in developing countries to be vaccinated and saved from the horrendous effects of polio.
Interest and commencement of the campaign to end Polio began in 1978/79. The main aim of Rotary was to promote advocacy, fund raising and recruitment of volunteers and workers. There have been 16 new cases since January 2016, in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The disease is very difficult to eradicate in these countries because of geography, politics and hostilities.
John thanked all those who participated from 15 Clubs in Ride the Bellarine. Hopefully it will be bigger and stronger next year.

By not winning Mitchell believes he has gained a whole lot of experience and realized that there is always room for improvement and to do better. His losses make winning all the sweeter and special.
Mitchell is an inspiring young man who has made a place for him in a tough sport and a competitive world.
