Guest Speaker: Norm Elliott. "On Writing a Book"
Norm met Jan Ruth O'Herne several years ago. Jan came from a Dutch family and grew up in Malaysia on a rubber plantation. The Japanese interred her during WW2.
She became a 'Comfort Woman' for the troops suffering terribly and gaining no comfort from her fellow prisoners as they thought she was a collaborator.
Jan eventually married a soldier from the United Kingdom and with extensive medical intervention had 2 children.
She became interested in the plight of Korean 'Comfort Women' and has appeared extensively worldwide on their behalf. Norm described her as a beautiful person and no doubt she is a very brave one.
