Ocean Grove VIEW Club
George Forbes, President of the Smith Family, founded the organization in 1960. The club functions as a fundraising body for the Smith Family. The name is a acronym which stands for: Voice for women at club meeting level and at national conferences especially concerning domestic violence and the education of children especially aboriginal girls. In the 1970s the lobby for reduced taxes on Superannuation for women was successful.
Interests of women, especially those that promote social interaction, which assists in the promotion of fundraising activities as well as friendships.
Education of children through 'Learning for Life' programs conducted by the Smith Family for those children who are in need of support. The VIEW Club is the largest not for profit supporters of the Smith Family.
Women form the membership group throughout Australia. There are 21,000 members involved in the country. There are 52 clubs in Victoria. Ocean Grove VIEW Club was founded in 2012 and currently has 146 members, and volunteers give approximately 5000 hours per month through meals on wheels, animal shelter work, reading groups, knitting for students, assisting the RSL in badge selling, Cottage by the Sea and environmental working bees. The Club supports 6 students by providing funds to purchase uniforms, books and other school related expenses. The club members have no direct interaction with the individual students apart from birthday and Christmas cards.
Some sponsorship agreements have been formed with local businesses and it is hoped that a working relationship can be formed with Rotary.
